Errol

Errol

Errol is Troy's hearing uncle, last seen in the first series when Troy was working in his record shop. He is a strong influence in Troy's life and has made the effort to learn sign language to communicate with Troy and his friends. He is good at giving Troy advice about relationships, but has relationship troubles of his own.

Errol is played by Ray Harrison Graham, RUSH's writer and director. Ray has worked in the theatre for many years. He has travelled widely with his own company, Basic Theatre, performing both plays and signed song, and this work brought him to the attention of Channel 4, who recruited him as a presenter on two series for deaf children, Hand in Hand, and Dart. He went on to write and co-direct two dramas made by Resource Base for Channel 4, Strong Language and Dream On, both exploring the experiences of deaf young people. Strong Language was BAFTA-nominated and won a Japan Prize and a Prix Jeunesse. Dream On won a BAFTA award and a Royal Television Society Award.

Since RUSH began, Ray has also written and directed two dramas for the BBC: Who Cares?, about a young boy caring for his grandmother, and Lion Mountain, about two refugees from Sierra Leone.
