Rush

RUSH focuses on the lives of six students at a mainstream college – on their relationships and their ambitions, and on their struggle to make sense of their lives.

RUSH is written and directed by Ray Harrison Graham and produced by Hilary Durman, who together with Cilla Ware created the award-winning dramas Strong Language (Japan Prize, Prix Jeunesse) and Dream On (BAFTA and Royal Television Society).

Episode 9

We see mourners arriving at a cemetery, and Errol is there to greet them, his arm in a sling. In the chapel, Troy is trying to deal with his own feelings and at the same time comfort Adam, who is distraught. The tiny coffin reveals that it is Kara who has died, shot as Clancy tried to take revenge on Errol.

Maya tries to give Errol some comfort, too, knowing he must be feeling responsible. Adam is full of grief and remorse, confessing he was jealous of Kara's relationship with Troy. Kelly, Mel, Nicky, Michael, Annie and Nigel all arrive. In the chapel, it is some time before Adam and Troy are composed enough to let the service begin. When it does, memories of her own loss are too much for Mel, and she leaves the chapel. Kelly follows her. As Mel speaks of the death of her own parents, Kelly tries to tell her how much she admires her strength.

Troy makes a moving address, appealing to all his friends to understand the meaning of Kara's life and the important lessons he has learned from his short time with her. Adam used to call the group 'The Circle of Strength', and Troy appeals to that strength to support Adam now. As the service ends, Troy carries Kara's coffin out of the chapel, followed by a procession of mourners. Kelly sees Adam alone and goes to comfort him. As Troy and Adam leave in the car, the friends follow on foot. There is a deep sense of loss, but also a sense of the power of love and friendship which carries them forward.
