Lydia Docker

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

Weetabix and a cup of tea!

Tell us a little about your education.

Sir Winston Churchill School, Mill Hall School and Ovingdean Hall School. Went to Chelsea College of Art & Design and I did a degree in graphic and media design at the London College of Printing.

How did you land the job with VEE-TV?

A friend advised me to apply the job. Now I am glad that I followed his advice!

What are your favourite and least favourite parts of the job?

Favourite: working with a great team of people and on lots of interesting projects. Least favourite – sometimes when my computer crashes or when there are internet problems.

What do you like most about the show itself?

Debate is great because it is good to see people discuss issues and vote on the results.

What do you do when you're not working for VEE-TV – for money and for pleasure?

Sports, especially sailing, and travelling round the world.

Have you always wanted to work in the media?

Yes, all my life. My sister works in the media and I was always interested in her job.

What advice would you give to young deaf people interested in working in the media? What qualities do you think you need?

Research all the opportunities and work hard. The skills you need are to be imaginative, believe in yourself and your own ideas, and be committed and determined to succeed.

What do you think is the most important issue facing the Deaf community at the moment?

It has to be BSL recognition and deaf access.

What are your ambitions?

Production work, photography and graphic design.

Who's your hero or biggest influence?

It has to be my family! They are so supportive and loveable!

Can you recommend something that you really enjoyed recently – book, show, film, website, whatever?

Braveheart and Lord of the Rings. My favourite website is the one my brother has developed for his snowboard instruction.

What's your perfect day?

Sitting with my boyfriend on top of a mountain and seeing the whole, wide view over the country, having climbed the mountain!
