What did you have for breakfast this morning?
Tracker cereal bar and coffee oops!
What have you been up to since the last series of VEE-TV?
Back working at RNID as an employment adviser offering advice and guidance
to deaf people looking for work or training in London. I also work with
employers and arrange work experience placements. I love my job!
What are your favourite and least favourite parts of working for VEE-TV?
Fave fun, fun, fun! Least fave the programme is too short,
so the fun doesn't last very long!
How did you land the job?
I was talking to Sophie Woolley, who works at RNID, about TV presenting
and how I had always wanted to be a presenter. She told me about VEE-TV
and put me in touch with her sister, Cathy, who was a researcher for the
first series. Before I knew it, I was going for the audition (twice).
And I got the job!
What are your favourite things about the show?
Too many to mention RUSH, PULSE and everything!
What do you think is the most important issue facing the Deaf community
at the moment?
Where are deaf sports going?!?! Need I say more?
Tell us a little about your education.
I was educated at Mary Hare and then Staffordshire University, where
I read biology. I absolutely loved school, and university even more
I would recommend uni to everyone.
Have you always wanted to work in the media?
Yeah! I am a bit of an extrovert so that probably explains things!
What other media jobs/activities have you been involved in?
I've appeared on a VH1 commercial promoting deaf people's views on music
people used to come up to me and say they were at the gym working
out and almost dropped their weights when I appeared! I hope that was
a compliment.
What advice would you give to young deaf people interested in working
in the media?
It's really competitive in the media industry if you are really
committed to working in media, I would suggest offering to work as a volunteer
doing just about anything to get your foot through the door. Once you've
established contacts and people see your dedication, the work will flow.
Alternatively, as an employment adviser, I can arrange work-experience
placements for deaf people interested in working in media.
What are your ambitions?
To be a successful businesswoman.
Who's your hero or biggest influence?
Ummm... haven't really got a hero but I admire my parents. As presenters,
Ant, Dec and Cat! They're brilliant presenters who have a laugh on TV
we are like them, aren't we?
What do you do in your time off?
Play netball, do yoga and sip wine in bars!
Can you recommend something that you really enjoyed recently book,
show, film, website, whatever?
Recently went to watch the ballet (twice!) at Sadler's Wells. It was
amazing very visual and no spoken words. The dancing and the feel
of music blows you away!
What's your perfect day?
Oh that would have to be on the beach, wouldn't it!
