Anjali

Anjali, Maya's cousin, has come to England from India with little grasp of either English or sign language. She has a sweet and gentle nature, and an innocence which is given added emphasis by her limited ability to understand and communicate with those around her.

Based in London, Anu Kumar (24), who plays Anjali, is a professional actor currently working in Edinburgh as part of Theatre Workshop's inclusive acting company.

Anu developed her passion for drama at the age of 14, when she joined the Deaf Drama Club led by Ray Harrison Graham and Sarah Scott at the Unicorn Theatre. At 18, she was invited to audition for ARC Theatre Ensemble, and her professional career began with a tour of Sitting Pretty. She continued to develop her skills with Graeae Theatre Company's Missing Piece training course, followed by a tour.

During her two years with Theatre Workshop, Anu's credits include Portadown Blues, Jack and the Land of Dreams, Kaguyahime, and If I die b4U wake, a piece on teenage suicide which marked her debut as a writer for theatre.

Anu is now keen to focus her skills in television. Rush is her television debut.
