Anil, Anjali's brother, is very protective of his younger sister. He is a man of strong integrity with a powerful respect for his family and their shared cultural values. He is happy at first to entrust Anjali to Maya, seeing immediate benefits for her ability to communicate. He wants his sister to be happy, but not at any price.
Born in Calcutta, Joseph Ansted came to England when he was two months old. His passion for acting began at school, where he performed in a number of plays, with much encouragement from the drama department. After leaving school he worked in a variety of jobs until he won a place at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
Joseph's professional work began in community theatre for the Platypus Theatre Company and Buster Young People's Theatre. He has also been involved with productions at the Theatre Royal, Stratford, and Newcastle Opera House.
Joseph's television and film work includes Partition with Ken McMullen for Channel 4 and Saracen with Lawrence Moody for Central Television.
