Day 8 begins with Caroline cleaning out the chicken coop once again, this time with Paul. In the Diary Room, Jade is invited by Big Brother to share her tip for the second housemate to be evicted. In naming Shaneen as the likely nominee, she admits that she would miss her, mainly because she does most of the cleaning and cooking in the house! Tracey and Caroline are discussing what they have gained from their time in the house and, for Tracey, it is increased self-awareness. She has recognised for the first time that she is stubborn.
The next group task puts an end to this introspection as the housemates
are asked to paint a group portrait. They each select their model
though Paul chooses to paint himself. Once this is completed, they
are asked to present their work to Big Brother explaining what they
were trying to emphasise. James's humour and increasing self-confidence
in the group starts to show itself as he pays tribute to Caroline's
'well-toned physique' and sense of fashion, indicated by the slightly
'slutty' pink high heels he has given her.
Paul's self-image is clearly indicated in his muscle-bound portrait
of himself.
But the eviction is on everyone's minds and the Diary Room sees a number of visitors wanting to explore their feelings in private. By contrast, Tracey discusses her feelings about Caroline in particular, with Tommy, during which, in a moment of staggering self-ignorance, she declares that she hasn't 'bitched at all in here'!
Gossip is at the heart of the Big Brother experience, according to the psychiatrist, being the only way to survive for the housemates. Even Tommy, he notes, who claims to stay out of any bitchiness, uses gossip itself to tell Tracey that gossip is wrong.
When Shaneen's eviction is announced, Tracey is the first to hug her and to rebuke Jade for crying as it will make her cry too! Despite being unanimously removed from the house, Shaneen displays great selflessness in opting to stay for a meal, because the housemates 'need all the food they can get', rather than choosing to leave early and have a day of pampering with a real friend. For her, the greatest revelation has been the thought that she might consider going to uni, after meeting Caroline and James.
Shaneen's departure seems to further unbalance the group, who,
after leaping about in celebration of now being the six survivors,
soon dissolve into another round of soul-searching - and bitching!
