The liver: How to live longer
- Drink alcohol in moderation - no more than three units per day for women and four for men.
- Don't take more than one medicine without checking with your pharmacist or doctor.
- Cut down the amount of fat in your diet - high-fat diets have been linked with an increased risk of gall-bladder disease.
- Drink moderate amounts of tea and coffee - (2-3 cups of coffee per day) to protect the liver.
- If you're travelling to a country where hepatitis A or B are a risk, get vaccinated.
- Practise safe sex and don't use drugs. Hepatitis B and C can be spread through body fluids during sex, or via sharing needles.
