Boobs, bangers, Bristols and hooters – they come in all shapes and sizes and can be a constant source of frustration to those of us who'd kill for bigger ones, long for smaller ones or just wished the ones we had would stay exactly where we'd like them to be. But whether yours' look like two fried eggs on a surfboard or a dead heat in a zeppelin race, sooner or later you'll find yourself battling against gravity (and sorry girls, the odds are stacked in favour of the droop).
But what is it about getting old that makes bangers lose their bang and sees your hooters head south of the border? And, more importantly, is there anything you can do to coax them northwards again?
The main culprit in the great downward boob exodus lies mainly with your skin. Whilst the full flush of youth blesses us with skin so taut you could practically bang out a drum solo on it, over time it loses its elasticity and its power to ping miracuously back into shape diminishes. With sagging skin, the inevitable shift southwards occurs as the sheer weight of your wobblers stretches the breasts beyond their ability to bounce back.

Unfortunately unlike those constant trips to the gym to battle the bulge and trim up the tum, there are no significantly effective excercises you can do to firm up your failing bustline. This is because the breasts are made out of tissue so there is no muscle there to stimulate and, whilst the surrounding muscle can be toned with some minor effect, in reality this will have little significant impact against the droop. In fact there is some evidence to suggest that, in the absence of a suitably supportive sports bra, exercise can actually accellerate the problem, with activities such as jogging increasing the natural "figure of eight" motion of the breasts and quickening the stretching of the skin.
So what can you do about it?
Well apart from the growing legions of bust-firming creams and lotions clamouring for your attention on the supermarket shelves, the best weapon in your arsenal is undoubtedly a well-fitting bra. With thousands of British women squeezing their assets into the wrong kind of support, there's little wonder that misbehaving mammories and chronic back problems are the order of the day. With the female form in a constant state of flux as the years march on, experts suggest that you should go for a new bra fitting at least every six months, ensuring that your boobs are behaving exactly as they should.
But try as you might to stay perky, pert and protruding with pride, no amount of banger scaffolding can completely halt the inevitable race to your navel. It seems that in that titanic tug of war to keep your Bristols from befriending your knees, unfortunately it seems gravity exerts the greatest pull.
