Extreme Test
This week (6th May 2008) Carole and Rebecca looked at Alberto V05 Extreme Style Freeze Spray (RRP £2.99). On its advertising, the spray states: “the ultimate fixing effect to create spikes, or any other challenging style you want. Whatever you do, it will hold all day and more!”
To test out the hairsrpay we had hair stylist Julian Holland fix both Rebecca’s and Carole’s hair into gravity defying styles. Julian created a rock quiff for Carole and then used the Freeze spray ONLY to hold it in place. Rebecca’s hair was styled elaborately, pinned and then sprayed with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Hairspray in Normal Hold (ave £4.19). The L’Oréal spray made no bold holding claims and was used as a control.
The first test for the hairsprays was a ride in an open-top car. It quickly became clear that once the car got up to about 30 mph both styles got blown about. The front of Rebecca’s hair lost all its style – but the back remained in place. Carole’s rock quiff was blown around by the wind but once the car stopped – the quiff returned.
The second test was a ride in a speedboat. Rebecca’s hairstyle was totally blown out by the wind and spray. Carole’s rock quiff looked battered by the boat ride – but once again – when the boat stopped, the quiff returned. It was slightly worse for wear but still recognizably a quiff, crowning Alberto V05 Extreme Style Freeze Spray as a winner!
