Organic moisturisers try to do the same job as their non-organic counterparts, but their unique selling point is that they are environmentally friendly. They aim to nourish your skin with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and humectants (stuff that preserves moisture) and many contain plant or herbal extracts such as aloe vera, jojoba oil or chamomile.
But to get the whole concept of organic skin care, you have to understand organic farming. Basically, organic farming is all about going back to basics. That means nourishing the soil naturally (crop rotation, composting and cover crops) resulting in climate-hardy plants that have better insect and disease resistance. Because of this resistance, farmers don’t have much need to use artificial fertilisers, pesticides or other synthetic chemicals.
If you’re all about organic skin care, just be careful about the products you’re using, because there are products out there that use the organic name without putting in the hard work in the fields.
So, if you’ve found an organic moisturiser you want to try out, the first thing to do is check to see if it is certified as organic. Have a read of the ingredients list and see if there are chemicals in there that you don’t fancy slathering all over your face. You also need to choose the one that is best for your skin type, as Gok doesn’t want you looking like you’ve had a facial steam off a chip pan…
So did Gok’s product testing army buy the idea of organic moisturisers? Check out our Naked Truth Poll to find out >>
