The following message contains details of organisations offering information and support to anyone with confusing or troubled relationships.
Relate offers counselling, psychosexual therapy, and other services to help anyone aged over 16. Whether you are married, living together, in a same-sex relationship, separated, divorced or single, their confidential service can help you to deal with your relationship difficulties. You can come on your own or with a partner. To find out about services available call 0300 11 1234 (Monday - Thursday 8am-10pm, Friday 8am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm) or to book an appointment call 0300 100 1234 (Monday-Thursday 8am-9pm, Friday 8am-5pm, Saturday 9am-5pm), or you may find the information you need on their website at www.relate.org.uk.
The London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard - LLGS provide a phone service to anyone in the UK on 0207 837 7324 (daily 10am-11pm). They offer information, support and referrals to lesbians, bisexuals, gay men, transsexuals and straight people wanting information on gay issues. You can also visit their website at www.llgs.org.uk.
There's information, advice and guidance on anything to do with sex, sexual health and relationships for young people aged 12 to 18 at Sexwise 0800 28 29 30 (free, confidential, daily 7am - midnight). Talk in complete confidence to an experienced adviser, or go to website www.ruthinking.co.uk where you'll find loads of stuff including what do when you need emergency help.
Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays or FFLAG offers confidential support, information and a sympathetic ear for parents, families, straight partners and friends of lesbian, gay and bisexual people. Go to www.fflag.org.uk where you'll find details of regional groups under the heading Parents Groups.
Get Connected is a free helpline and email service helping young people find the best support whatever their problem. It's especially good for anyone thinking of leaving home or has left home already. Call 0808 808 4994 (free from main mobile services, daily 1pm-11pm). If you're a young person needing to talk to someone ChildLine is free and confidential for anyone up to the age of 18. The free helpline is open 24 hours a day, every day on 0800 11 11. If you have difficulty in hearing or in using a regular phone try the textphone service on 0800 400 222.
They also provide a special helpline called The Line for any young person living away from home. This is the helpline for you if you live in a foster home or a children's home, if you're at boarding school or you've been in hospital for a long time. You can call The Line 0800 88 44 44 (free, Mondays - Fridays 3.30pm-9.30pm, weekends 2pm-8pm). ChildLine phone lines can be very busy but do keep trying and you will get through. Parentline Plus offers help and support to anyone in a parenting role. Call 0808 800 22 22 (free, confidential, 24 hours a day).
