China's Stolen Children

October 2007

The following script contains details of organisations working for human rights and to end the trafficking and exploitation of children and young women.

If you'd like to join with others working to improve human rights in China, Amnesty International has launched a campaign in the run-up to next year's Beijing Olympics. Among its aims is protection for those working within China on issues such as those raised by this programme. Visit www.amnesty.org.uk to find out more.

Human Rights Watch is dedicated to protecting the human rights of people around the world. They stand with victims and activists to prevent discrimination, uphold political freedom, protect people from inhumane conduct in wartime, and to bring offenders to justice. To enable them to do this HRW need the public and the international community to support the cause of human rights for all. Find out more at www.hrw.org where you can also find out more about the human rights challenges facing China.

Save The Children are leaders in transforming attitudes toward children and on some issues have completely changed what is accepted as the norm for children in the world today. They first started working in China in the 1930's and you can find out more about their projects and campaigns on the website at www.savethechildren.org.uk. This site also includes a downloadable brief on China.

The organisation ECPAT UK - End Child Prostitution and Trafficking, runs various campaigns against the commercial sexual exploitation of children including child sex tourism and trafficking. To find out how you can support ECPAT UK go to www.ecpat.org.uk where you can also access their report Missing Out on children trafficked into the UK, or phone them at 0207 233 9887 on weekdays from 10am to 4pm, email ecpatuk@antislavery.org.

The programme concerned children and families in China, but if it has upset you because someone in your family in this country is missing, the organisation Missing People works in the UK to advise missing people, their families and those who care for them. They also help in the search for missing UK nationals. Find out more at their website at www.missingpeople.org.uk.
