Sailing the Atlantic

Bob and Glo reminisce about the ups and downs of life on the ocean wave.

Bob

'The trip was exciting, demanding, a life-changing experience. It was wonderful to see sunsets, dolphins and a meteor with flaming tail. The whole crew bonded and helped each other through some pretty tough times and I would sail anywhere with each and every one of them again. I did realise that I should be more tolerant and not get irritated over silly things but in the big picture it really doesn't matter. Nothing's planned yet for another trip but that may change when we get our new, bigger boat.'

Glo

'Sometimes, I felt elated and very lucky, other times grotty and dirty because we couldn't wash. Curiously, I was never frightened. The sense of being part of a team was wonderful, we are like a "sea family" now. On calm night-watches with Bob, he would doze and let me helm. I felt everyone was relying on me for a little while and I used to sing hymns! Magic! The worst bit was watching people sick up the dinners I'd just cooked them! I learned how much stamina I have and that silly things we allow to upset us don't really matter. I'm obsessed now with the idea of crossing the Pacific and am trying to get a "yes" from Bob.'

You can also hear what Bob and Glo had to say about their ocean adventure in their recent webchat.
