How much time and energy do you waste on rows that go nowhere? Learn how to negotiate towards solutions that leave everyone feeling happy.
View disagreements as a chance to work together for the best possible solution for everybody, not a chance for you to score points and come out on top. Triumph may be sweet but it breeds resentment.
Going in with blame or criticism is guaranteed to fire up a row. Find a time when you won't be interrupted and aren't too tired and open the discussion gently, without accusing.
Listen properly to others, take their feelings on board, respond sensitively. Respect other viewpoints, even if you disagree with them.
Stick to the point and don't drag in old grievances. If anyone starts to lose control, take time out to calm down and finish the discussion later.
Flexibility is paramount. Say goodbye to in-the-box thinking and open up to compromise. Actively seek outcomes where everyone is reasonably content.
