Countryside Alliance
The Countryside
Alliance campaigns for the 'rural way of life'. It supports
the countryside and country sports, including hunting, shooting
and angling.
With a wide range of issues on its slate – including farming,
land development, tourism, landscape and biodiversity, and local
governance – it has been able to build strong support with people
who live and work outside cities and towns. It now has over 100,000
full members and 250,000 associate members.
Although the Countryside Alliance refuses to align itself politically,
it works hard lobbying government on policies that affect its
members. It aims to 'ensure the stability of rural life', look
after long-term conservation and give the countryside a strong
political voice.
And the Countryside Alliance has been active in pushing to bring
these benefits to the countryside. Its campaigns include promoting
sustainable production and environmentally conscious farming.
It educates consumers to become aware of what they're buying and
where it comes from. It also works for better, more affordable
homes for local people, and for safeguarding country sports –
which it sees as crucial to managing wildlife.
