The US government refuses to address carbon
emission
(Cadmium)
Impending doom?
Let’s leave the worrying to the politicians. After all, they’re
the ones elected to tackle that sort of thing, right? And they’re
all waxing lyrical about the environment, given that election
fever is raging in the political camps. Back in Kyoto in December
1997, the United Nations brokered the world’s first treaty to
tackle global warming. And in January this year Tony Blair took
the helm by demanding tougher action from the US.
It sounds a bit melodramatic, but if America doesn’t get on to
the global warming bandwagon, we’re doomed. The US is responsible
for a quarter of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. But it
doesn’t look like the environment is a subject that turns George
Bush on. He’s keen to protect the US economy and is ‘sceptical’
about global warming. So ‘Dubya’ didn’t sign up to the Kyoto Treaty.
And what can you do if the leader of one of the most powerful
nations in the world won’t do anything? |
