'I feel strongly about young people. It is important to give young people a voice and to let them express themselves and not to blame them for everything! Old people can graffiti too! I've seen old people being violent and using bad language as well. Young people should be encouraged and celebrated for all their talents and annoyances.'
Mark Thomas (comedian)
'Democracy is far too precious to be wasted on politicians who
give it a bad name. Being democratic means being involved in struggles
each day and everyday, whether it is writing a letter for Amnesty
International, protesting, campaigning or just plain annoying
the companies and the politicians that control so much of our
lives, it is all worth the effort. To be honest I care more about
people demonstrating at the UK arms fair in the Docklands in East
London come September than I do about voting, which will be for
the Greens if anyone has bothered reading this far. All the main
parties support the arms industry that takes millions of our money
and uses it to promote the sale of weapons to some of the worst
human rights abusers on the planet, so there is little chance
of changing government policy without campaigning and protest.
Protest and direct action got us the vote and it will be protest
and direct action that can force politicians to change.'
