Hosting a dinner party can be a stressful experience - and it can also be very revealing. Style, etiquette, aspirations, social standing, choice of friends and conversational finesse are all on display - not to mention culinary expertise (or lack of it!). 

Perhaps surprisingly, however, the hosts featured in this six-part series have volunteered to undergo a very public examination of their own entertaining skills. Viewers will have a fly-in-the-soup view of all the pretensions, embarrassments, conflicts and potentially explosive personality clashes on display at six very different dinner parties.

Throughout each meal, the two Dinner Party Inspectors will be on hand to scrutinise the proceedings as they unfold, watching as the diners pick their way through a social minefield - often with mixed fortunes…

Writer and social commentator Victoria Mather will observe the interaction between the assembled guests, commentating on the conversational ebb and flow around the dining table. Meredith Etherington Smith will judge etiquette, culinary finesse and table manners.

Entertaining viewing. Literally.
