In his latest attempt to improve the culinary skills of the nation, Jun attempts to make a cook out of Claire, a 30yr old mother of three from Port Talbot, Wales.
Glamour puss Claire is a self confessed disaster in the kitchen. Her friends claim that she dresses to kill but cooks the same way. Even the most simple kitchen tasks are beyond Claire and though she would love to produce good home cooked food for her family, the only thing she can manage is burnt offerings.
After some intensive coaching at his cookery school, Jun manages to give Claire the basics of good cooking. Though she has never held a dinner party in her life, that’s exactly the challenge Jun sets for Claire. Arriving at Claire’s house with a box of ingredients, Jun throws his pupil in at the deep end. But the coaching seems to have worked and Claire manages to hold things together to prove that she can impress her friends and family with a simple, yet tasty, recipe.
After her home cooking exploits, Claire is sent to meet Pascal Proyart, head chef at the One O One fish restaurant in London. Pascal is perfectly plaiced (it’s a fish restaurant, geddit?) to work with Claire and share some industry secrets to give her the best chance of winning the Cook Off competition.
After more kitchen turmoil, the day of the competition arrives. Jun and Pascal believe that Claire now has the knowledge to challenge two working chefs at their own game, but will she stay on top of her nerves?
