Tonight it’s Nikki O’Leary’s turn to have a shot at the £1000 prize in Liverpool – but it’s not going to be easy because she’s planning to serve a three course vegan meal to four meat loving food connoisseurs.

And Nikki has also set herself an extra challenge, not only is she after that first prize, but she’s determined to convert her guests to the vegan lifestyle. Her diners are sceptical, so she’s going to have to work hard to win them over.

Nikki seems to be on to a winner when wine-buff Terry pronounces the vegan bacon as good as the real thing and fish-monger Dan asks for third helpings of her aubergine curry.

But with no meat on the menu, has Nikki done enough to reach that top spot?

Starter

Baked avocado on a bed of asparagus with vegan bacon

  1. Fantastic ideas thanks, as a life long meat eater i am in a small panic having decided to host a dinner party for a vegan friend - now i think i can cope (and not miss the meat part i usually think of as so important in a meal). Cheers

  2. Dear Nikki, I think you did an excellent job of showing people that vegans can be normal, lovely people who eat tasty food! You have also made me rethink my own philosophy. I've been a vegetarian for 20 years and felt comfortable believing that I was 'doing my bit'. However, I have been ignoring many facts surrounding milk production etc and am going to shop with more consideration. With soya milk, substitute meat products now so good and available, it shouldn't be so difficult. Thank you for the reminder and for raising awareness. Katy
