Matt Damon and Robin Williams
The Oscar-winning Good Will Hunting (Friday 28 December, 9pm) stars Matt Damon as a maths savant saved by Robin Williams, while Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes star in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet (Wednesday 26 December, 9pm).

On a lighter note, Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy swap lives in Trading Places (Tuesday 1 January, 9pm) while Paul Hogan explores the wilds of New York in Crocodile Dundee (Wednesday 26 December, 7.10pm).

Fantasy rules in the dark visions of Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth (Monday 17 December, 9pm) and in Terry Gilliam's surrealistic Time Bandits (Sunday 16 December, 9pm).

Samuel L Jackson in The 51st State
Greg McLean's Sundance-pleaser Wolf Creek (Monday 24 December, 11pm) is an Oz outback terror ride while Mean Creek (Sunday 23 December, 11.10pm) sees teen-plans to punish a bully take on a dark hue.

Samuel L Jackson stars in The 51st State (Wednesday 26 December, 11.20pm) as an American drugs genius hustling in Liverpool.

Foreign fare includes Stephen Chow's deliriously funny Kung-Fu Hustle (Tuesday 25 December, 11.15pm), the entrancing Audrey Tautou in Amelie (Friday 28 December, 9pm), and Akira Kurosawa's magnificent Kagemusha (Monday 24 December, 12.55am).

Plus, of course, it wouldn't be Christmas on Film4 without a traditional festive slasher: Black Christmas (Wednesday 26 December, 1am)...
