Jack Osbourne's diary

Jack Osbourne's Extreme Celebrity Detox course involved learning to perform t'ai chi and chi kung exercises halfway up a mountain in Slovenia.

Why did you choose this particular course?
It seemed like an exciting thing to do. I got a fax through with the list of the shows and I chose Slovenia because I thought it would be the most fun.

So did you enjoy it?
I'd never climbed before, ever, and I loved it. It's totally become my new hobby. I go climbing at least two or three times a week now.

What did you have to do?
It was great. It was all about doing t'ai chi and chi kung, and incorporating it into rock climbing. You'd think it was the most off-the-wall thing but it does kind of apply. Rock climbing is actually a very serene, focused exercise.

The guy (Chris Milford) who runs the course mapped it out to be kind of a mental, physical and spiritual adventure and it incorporated so many things, from meditation to physical conditioning.

How tough was the course?
We had to abseil down the side of the mountain, walk about a mile to the crags and then climb about 80 metres. At the end, everyone was dog tired and then we were forced to climb a relatively large rock face. It was really trying on the emotions for some people.

How was the hotel?
We stayed in this little 8ft by 10ft hut with bunk beds. It was really hot and claustrophobic, and we were all sharing in there. The food was basic but not bad at all. It was stews and muesli and stuff.

How did you get on with the other celebrities? (Jilly Goolden, Dominik Diamond and Catherine McQueen)
Catherine's a sweetheart … she takes everything in quietly and laughs all the time.

I don't think Jilly was used to being around younger people and she's quite old-fashioned but in a genuine and lovely way.

How did the others get on together?
It's safe to say Dominik and Jilly weren't the best of friends. It should make for very entertaining viewing. You've got Dominik Diamond, the GamesMaster-tabloid-extravaganza, and Jilly Goolden, wine-taster and world-traveller, just going at each other the whole time. It was kind of intense.

From my perspective, Jilly was mostly in the wrong.

Why do you say that?
She'd just needle him, make comments about what he was wearing and all that. She made a couple of wisecracks to me. I think it was just a clash of generations more than anything.

Do you think Dominik enjoyed the retreat as much as you?
No, he lost it, absolutely fucking lost it. When we woke up in the morning on the ledge – not that he'd actually slept – he was screaming, yelling 'Get me off this ledge'.

I'd slept like a baby, and I woke up the next morning with my feet dangling over the edge.

Do you think he had learned anything by the end?
I think he was in a position where he observed his lifestyle, and I think some things dawned on him, about his professional life and his personal life and health. I think it really helped him, and he's willing to become a different person, now.

And has it helped you to make changes in your life?
I'm going to a detox farm and on a climbing holiday with one of the show's executive producers, who has become a firm friend.
