The Carrot or the Stick

Thursdays 9pm, from 26 February

This three-part series aims to discover what motivates men - the fear of punishment or the anticipation of reward.

Twelve young men handpicked for their lack of motivation are divided into two teams of equal fitness for training by two completely different methods.

While the Carrrot team are rewarded for doing well and never punished, the Stick team are punished severely for failure and never rewarded.

They are both taken to the Brecon Beacons mountains in Wales, where they compete in extreme military exercises.

The Carrots are welcomed to their camp with a cup of tea and a game of frisbee, followed by group drumming around the campfire and meditation.

The Sticks have their heads shaved, their clothes confiscated and are each given a number instead of a name.

The teams don't even know of each other's existence until the first competition, a race over a tough assault course.

If the Sticks lose, they have to do it all again. If the Carrots win, they are rewarded with spending money and hot showers.

How will the Carrots cope without discipline and how will the Sticks react to a lack of motivation? Which technique will get the results, the carrot or the stick?
