Georgie

Georgie
Age: 16

Georgie, whose parents are divorced, lives in Crawley with her Mum, Anne, who is an airport holiday rep. Even though she was a pretty normal, private-school pupil as she was growing up things went wrong when she was 14 years old after her parents divorced.

The second youngest of six children, she has two half brothers, two half sisters and one younger sister. Her older siblings have also had some problems, but Georgie has gone far further than the rest. She has stooped lower than low and has even been stealing from her Mum, while pretending to cuddle her.

'I've been had for assault, vandalism, possession of drugs. I just eat, sleep, spend money on pills, speed, pace, crack and do fuck all.'

'She knows most of the local police by their Christian names,' Anne says. Georgie's had quite a few run ins with the law and she's even stolen her aunt's car. 'To get a phone call from the police in the middle of the night to say that your daughter's been arrested and is actually in one of their cells, it's just draining,' Anne says. 'Georgie seems to look upon prison cells almost as second homes.'

Georgie has been using drugs for the past two or three years. 'I think there's a lot in Georgie that she doesn't talk about at all,' Anne explains. 'There are problems and issues with Georgie because of the family break up. Her relationship with her father is extremely distant. I think she tests everybody that she meets. And so she'll push them to the nth degree.'

After the camp

Georgie was the biggest rebel when she first arrived at Camp, but by the end of her time there, she'd totally changed. Her Mum Anne says: 'Before, she was completely inconsiderate. She didn't care what anyone felt or thought. She used to be blank and out of it and now she is alive. There is a sparkle in her eyes and fire in her belly. She is a completely different girl now and I believe it's a long-term change.'

Georgie is now in Texas, attending another residential programme, where she is hoping to build on the changes she made while in Utah. Her Mum sold her house to help fund the course, and Aspen got her a part scholarship.
