Fran was an academic girl at school, living with her single mum in Bath. The teenager enjoyed playing hockey and was good at making friends, was a vegetarian and always had an awareness of the environment. Then her violent temper took over and she messed up her education, gaining few qualifications and leaving herself unable even to hold down a job at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Both Fran and her mum realised they had reached the disturbing position of Fran bullying her mother and controlling their relationship.
While she was at Redcliff, she clashed with James, but after graduating from the course just after Christmas, Fran got a job. Her relationship with her mother was still difficult at times but it was improving.
One year on, Fran is holding down three jobs and staying on course. She continues to do well. But behaving so badly on television had its price for Fran when she returned to England. People would shout at her in the street. Nevertheless, Redcliff helped her get her life back on track. 'I learned that you're in charge of your own life,' she says. She has moved in with friends and leaving home has really helped the mother-daughter relationship.
