Age: 16
James lives with his parents and youngest sister in Marlow, Bucks in a nice middle-class neighbourhood in a home with a swimming pool. He was always very bright and learnt to read from an early age.
His parents say he has always been strong willed and he was like a mini-adult, always good looking and concerned to 'make a career out of looking good'. He enjoyed a close relationship with his sisters.
Following in his father's footsteps he was passionate about cars, he has had a privileged upbringing and has already lived and travelled a lot abroad with his family, including stays in Germany, South Africa and New Mexico.
James' problem started with his cannabis use, a habit strongly disapproved of by his parents. It has led to increasingly abusive clashes between him and his mother and father. On one occasion they called the police to the house.

After graduating, James has returned to England and, having decided not to smoke dope, he has noticed that his eye-hand coordination have improved. He no longer wants to become a mechanic and says he wants to make his father proud and go to university to study engineering. He has been accepted as a pupil at public school Gordonstoun.

His father used to be in the services and his older sisters are medics. They were raised without any unusual problems and James' parents are perplexed about what could have turned him into such a problem teenager.
They had to bribe James to go to Utah.
