Q: When was your company founded?
A: 1972
Q: How many staff do you employ?
A: 22
Q: What is your firm's turnover?
A: £1.4 million
Q: How did you get started?
A: We started as a packaging supplier to small high street shops. We developed into a printer and manufacturer of polythene carrier bags supplying packaging merchants and major high street retailers.
Q: What are your main products?
A: Our main product is high quality printed polythene carrier bags with plastic clip close handles for retail use.
Q: How do you sell your products?
A: Most of our product is sold through packaging merchants.
Q: What does your job involve on a day-to-day level?
A: My job on the day-to-day level is customer driven and involves quoting jobs, chasing money, resolving problems, monitoring production and quality control.
Q: How would you describe your management style?
A: My management style is 'bottom driven' in that the person who actually is at the point of action is the person who best knows what needs to be done. This doesn't always work but it is a good theory and works 90% of the time...
Q: What differentiates your company from your competition?
A: Our customer service. We don't deny problems but we work with our customers to solve them.
Q: What are the biggest challenges your business faces?
A: My biggest challenge is how to keep a manufacturing company going in the UK. We are losing our market share to cheap imported product from the Far East. We do not have a level playing field because our costs in wages, benefits, tax, health and safety, business insurance are much higher.
After that challenge the list of challenges is the same as any small business: finding new business, keeping staff, developing new products and maintaining customer satisfaction.
