Bruce
Bruce Burkitt:
The consummate sales person

Bruce combines charm, imagination and an interest in others with the determination to succeed. The person described by his questionnaire responses is highly extrovert and very sociable. But this is not the extrovert profile of a Falstaff, all good humour and bonhomie towards anyone with time to while away in idle pleasantries. Bruce is a man with a mission; very ambitious and unlikely to suffer fools gladly.

Socially skilled

Although Bruce is socially skilled and capable of considerable charm, unlike Falstaff, he benefits from the emotional independence of not needing to be liked by everyone. He is autonomous, has a strong sense of identity and is 'his own man'. However he is also likely to be approachable and easy to get on with, at least until you cross him! Another distinctive feature of Bruce's profile is his risk-taking, somewhat rebellious nature. Bruce is not too bothered with convention, he prefers to try new ways of doing things.

There are hints that, underneath all of the social charm there may be a tense, edgy, rather driven side to his personality. Bruce could be someone who gives himself a hard time and is constantly striving to do better. Typically, people like this are demanding of other people too.

Entrepreneurial

Bruce would be very restless working for anyone else. He is not a person who will enjoy doing someone else's bidding or who complies with other people's wishes just to keep the peace. His personality profile suggests that he is a passionate person who is rarely lost for words. He is confident. He knows what he wants and is determined to get it. For people like Bruce the only realistic options are entrepreneurial.

Bruce's profile suggests an impressive array of leadership qualities. He has the determination and desire to lead, the imagination and creativity to identify business opportunities and strategies, a willingness to go out on a limb, and the charisma to influence others and to sell his vision.

Bruce and Boss Swap

The real challenge of Boss Swap is to win over an unfamiliar workforce from a position of transient power. No one actually likes being told what to do. We are all choosy about whose instructions we are prepared to follow. Managerial influence depends on reputation. Bruce is certainly in with a chance but, as is always the case, the aspects of personality that serve us best often prove to be our Achilles heel.

The strongest themes in Bruce's profile are concerned with being charming, dynamic, risk taking and imaginative. These are impressive strengths, all associated with a desire to dominate and influence. He just has to guard against the potential downside of these characteristics. Under the pressure of his unfamiliar Boss Swap role, will his engaging style seem self-promotional? Will his charm seem manipulative? Will his spontaneity and risk-taking seem unnerving? Will his ideas seem inappropriate or even eccentric?
