La Sacristia

Schrager meets Prada in this seriously luxurious venue. A boutique hotel for people who actually like shopping in boutiques.
At the junction of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, Tarifa is Europe's top windsurfing destination and everyone gathers here for the waves, the surfwear shops and the general buzz. This is the nearest point in Spain to Morocco, and the fast daily hydrofoils to Africa show that you're on the very edge of Europe.
Bosco Herrero and Miguel Arregui (of Oberoi Hotels in India fame) were aiming for this super fit, slightly crazy-with-the-wallet vibe when they opened La Sacristia in 2002 in a former 17th century hostelry in the centre of town. The dark wood and whitewashed look is softened by cream paint and plentiful, hanging drapes, which give the whole place a vaguely Indonesian feel. The Spanish smart set have been coming in droves to sit on the rooftop terrace and sip cocktails ever since the doors first opened.
The interiors of the 10 double rooms, most of the Teak furniture and the mosaic-tiled bathrooms were all designed by the owners whose Eurotrash sense of humour means that their boutique hotel incorporates a deluxe mini-shop in which you can buy that Prada jacket you failed to acquire in some other sensational city. It's a fun kind of place for a sophisticated, surfboarding crowd.
