A minimalist haven in the heart of Palma, this 17th century monastery could become the unrivalled hotel of choice for style conscious travellers to Majorca.

It would be very difficult to fault Convent de la Missió. Not only is it in a great location, surrounded by narrow, cobblestone streets with specialist shops, just a short walk from Plaza Mayor in stylish Palma's old town, but it is also one of the trendiest hotels on the island. With classical music concerts, local fiestas and architectural walks organised by the town hall during the mild winter months, Palma has become very attractive to visitors even when sunbathing is not an option.

About 20 minutes from the airport, this former monastery has been transformed into a shrine to minimalism and contemporary design, cleverly integrating some original features into the modern style. But this is not just a place in which to indulge in modern architecture and pure, refined design: not making the most of the excellent restaurant is missing out on a very fine treat indeed.

Refectori serves up imaginative cuisine from their staple menu plus a selection of seasonal specialities, and there's a well-stocked wine cellar. The exquisite presentation of the dishes is an extension of the immaculate taste and style applied throughout the premises.

This concept is continued in the in-house art gallery, bar, whirlpool, sauna, solarium and ultra-stylish swimming pool. The hotel is equally suitable for couples on a romantic weekend, friends on a short break or trendy professionals on a business trip. Hip young couples with plenty of disposable income and sense of style will be in their element here.
