Delphi Mountain Resort & Spa

Lee McMurray

Have you stayed here? Write a review.

Whether you want to get your hiking boots on and scale mountains, or kick back and completely unwind, the secluded Delphi spa in the Irish countryside is a lavish hideaway offering guests the best of both worlds.

Set in the shadow of Mweelrea, the highest mountain in the Irish province of Connaught, Delphi mountain resort and spa is the ideal place for those in search of premium pampering.

This was the first time I'd stayed at a spa, and the understated, slightly odd-looking stone exterior didn't prepare me for what lies within. As you enter the reception area, the aroma of log fires and fragrant treatment oils, combine to create an overall atmosphere of restfulness making you feel immediately more relaxed.

The interiors are constructed from a combination of local stone and storm-felled timber. All the rooms are comfortable with great views onto the mountains, but the plushest are the split level suites, which comprise a living room and mezzanine sleeping area. The suites are themed in a variety of different woods, such as ash, beech and oak.

There are over forty treatments available at Delphi, ranging from aromatherapy massage and seaweed wraps, to hopi ear candles, and there's also a sumptuous health suite with a Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.

For those who prefer to feel the wind in their hair, a host of activities are on offer. Guests can explore sea caves, surf and horse ride at the beach, canoe and water ski in the nearby loch, or abseil and trek through the breathtaking countryside.

To round off your day, you must enjoy dinner at the resort's Peregrine restaurant, which serves only organic food and freshly-grown vegetables, and specialises in seafood caught locally, like Killary mussels, scallops and sea bass.
