It’s time to clear out the winter debris and re-assess your living situation. If you’re snowed under with piles of papers, CDs and shoes, you’ll need a storage unit to suit, so we’ve come up with the trendiest ways to organise your home.
Trunks for junk
The most fashionable way to store away your household bits and pieces are trunks. Homebase has the best deal on the high street with a gorgeous set of three rattan seagrass trunks
going for just £29.99 in an exclusive web offer. They’re ideal for storing away towels, bed linen, old clothes and just about anything else you’d rather have out of sight. For more solid traditional chests and trunks check out the fantastic range available from Pier. Priced at £250, the Sokarno Trunk is inspired by the hand-batiked motif of an antique terracotta tile found in Indonesia. Fans of all things eastern will also like the Fortune Trunk, £75, hand-painted with Chinese characters meaning good fortune, love, peace and joy. If the contents aren’t things you need to get at often, these trunks can also double up as coffee tables.
Sort your music
If you prefer to keep your CDs and DVDs out of sight, you should consider Pier’s Willow Basket Set, £14.99, which can easily be slid under a coffee table or stacked away neatly in the corner. If you prefer your music collection to be on display, check out Habitat’s funky shelving system which is included in their VIP Product Range owing to it having been designed by Texas singer Sharlene Spiteri. Made from aluminium, it comes in black and silver, holds 420 CDs and costs £199. A cheaper display option are coloured, stackable cubes at just £5 each.
Basket case
Wicker, seagrass and rattan baskets are all the rage and offer the perfect tidy-aways for all your bathroom or kitchen pieces. Ikea has the best basket range on the high street.
Get boxing
The most inexpensive way to clear your clutter is to pick up a pile of boxes. This might not sound too stylish but places like Ikea and Habitat have a great range of coloured, cardboard boxes which are good enough to display. Cargo’s start from just £3 and come in great, bold colours. Habitat has a sturdier range which come with attractive front labels, making it quick and easy to find your bits and pieces. If it’s toy boxes you’re after, Homebase has a great range of colourful boxes for kids.
Bedrooms solutions
If the bottom of your wardrobe is a minefield of old trainers, Habitat’s shoe-tidy, £19, designed by the man who should know a thing or two about sports shoes, Linford Christie, is a great start. Denim and cotton hanging shoe-tidies and jumper racks are also available fairly cheaply from most high street homeware shops.
