Castleford project stars at key arts event
Art and architecture stars of the Castleford Project are key speakers at a prestigious urban regeneration forum, supported by the Arts Council, Thursday March 16.
Sarah Wigglesworth MBE, one of the UK's most acclaimed architects and leading Cuban artist Carlos Garaicoia are both featured speakers at '4x4 Making Places' – a key regional platform which brings together developers, planners, architects and politicians committed to raising the level of debate on creating quality towns and cities. Sarah Wigglesworth is linked to the Castleford Project for her Riverside Improvement Strategy designed to help attract new investment to Castleford's soon to be improved riverside area.
Carlos Garaicoia has been commissioned by the Arts Council to develop a new art work for Castleford alongside the regeneration scheme. He will be visiting the town to discuss early ideas for the new artwork..
The Castleford Project will be the world's first televised regeneration scheme. It is driven by a partnership including Wakefield Council, Channel 4 and agencies committed to regenerating Castleford. Progress with the Project is being filmed by a team from Talkback UK and a major Channel 4 series hosted by Kevin McCloud of Channel 4's Grand Designs.
The 4X4 programme – so called because it features four speakers over a four week period – takes place at Leeds Metropolitan University School of Architecture from 6pm and is free og charge. Since being launched by Ian Tod of Allen Tod Architecture in 2001 it has attracted an audience of over 6,000..
