Lisa’s top 5 hair colour tips:
- Blonde is the kindest colour to anyone’s skin and works well on anyone, so long as the tone is correctly applied. Lightened hair is only as good as the person looking after it, so bear that in mind before having more fun as a blonde.
- It is so important to get the tone right too when going to the dark side. A mistake most people make is to go too warm or a touch too dark so that the colour then looks flat. Bear in mind that once you’ve made the change, you will need to alter your make-up routine too.
- Often clients are nervous when I start talking about using bleach. The truth is that bleach is one of my favourite products; it just has to be used right. Sometimes it is the only way to get the colour light enough, but most bleaches now are so far advanced that they work well WITHOUT heat and lift easily without damaging the hair too much at all. Just use a really good conditioning mask afterwards to help put back in the moisture.
Recommended product: Frederic Fekkai Techniciain colour care 3-minute mask - It is not necessary to have a full head highlights every time you have them done. A good colourist will be able to do a top up and make you look like you have had them done all over. Much better for the condition of your hair!
- Blonde tones are subtle and can fade, leaving hair looking dull and lifeless. Invest in professional colour refresher products; they are the only way to keep tone topped up and looking bright.
Recommended products: Kerastase Masquintance, Clynol Colour and Care range or BC Schwarzkopf True Blonde shampoo.
