For 10 years artist Cathy Fisher lived the life of a beach babe in the Seychelles, but all that exposure to the sun came with a hefty price. Sun worship is a religion that requires sacrifices: scorching solar rays had taken away the elasticity and radiance of Cathy’s skin, leaving her with a thinning, baggy and mottled complexion. As many as 90% of the signs of ageing are caused by the sun.

But the changes Cathy went through when she returned from the Seychelles weren’t just skin deep. As well as losing her youth, she lost her creativity and with it her sense of colour, style and flair.

One hundred art students polled her at 56; at 49 that’s not good news.

10 Years Younger’s ray of sunshine Nicky Hambleton-Jones and her team taught Cathy how to turn back those tell-tale hands of time. On the menu was a nip here and a tuck there, hair extensions and, for the woman who dressed in anything as long as it’s brown, a wardrobe overhaul. Just because you’re pushing 50 doesn’t mean you’re past it in the style stakes, and Nicky set about restoring Cathy’s colourful youth with this season’s hottest looks.

Andrew updated Cathy’s wishy-washy colour with fine blonde highlights.

Extensions were glued in a few strands at a time to add 2 inches onto the length of Cathy’s hair.

TOP TIP: When considering which colour to go for, think about what colour you are naturally and use that as a starting point. If you are blonde for example, then going dark probably won’t complement your skin tone so go for something nearer your natural colour.

Make-up

Ruby Hammer Make-up Artist

As Cathy is often short of time in the morning, Ruby advises that she looks for multi-purpose products such as foundation/powder and blush/bronzer. These do two jobs in one and will therefore save precious time.

People often forget that their eye colour is a colour. Use naturals to enhance it and bring that colour out. Ruby used brown to enhance Cathy’s blue eyes.

TOP TIP: If you find yourself too short of time to do your make-up, just stop on the way out of the door to put your mascara on. It takes just a minute to apply and makes a huge difference.

Cathy’s hands were looked at through Sk:n’s ‘Skin Scanner’. She then had microdermabrasion, laser removal of sun spots and Teosyal Meso (injecting of hyaluronic acid into her hands to puff them out).
