A tub of margarine. Slap it all over.
Bake for 30 years under a burning sun. And what do you get?

A recipe for disaster and a face in melt down. Mature architecture student Janice Despard had been in pursuit of a tan for longer that she can remember.

Sun beds or the real thing, she’s not fussy and coming from Glasgow, sun bed capital and spiritual home of deep frying, it was not surprising that a poll of 100 students put 45 year old Janice at 55.

A bit of nip and tuck renewed her ageing façade. But it wasn’t just the lines on her face that were dragging her down. An uninspiring wardrobe made up entirely of denim was doing this former window dresser no favours.

Nicky and team taught her the joys of a dress and how to get a sun-kissed look without kissing goodbye to your skin.

Andrew loved Janice’s natural curl so instead of chopping it off, he wanted to show her how to work with it.

Her hair was very dry and had no shape or structure to the style. Andrew cut each curl randomly to a different length in order to achieve a good scattering of layers.

A darker base with two tone blonde highlights added colour to the curls and replaced that shocking bleached blonde.

TOP TIP: If you want your curls to be smooth and sleek, use a protein protective spray to keep moisture in the hair and help with the blowdrying process.

Make-up

Ruby Hammer Make-up Artist

Ruby used bronzing powder to show Janice the safe way to achieve a lovely golden sun-kissed look.

A muted eyeshadow applied with a brush helped define Janice’s eyebrows and frame her eyes.

Less is definitely more and just a touch of mascara on the lashes emphasises the eyes without going over the top.

To finish, Ruby opted for a hint of colour and sheen on Janice’s lips.
