Saab - Move Your Mind

Saab Bio Fuel

After examining the roles played by polymaths in today’s society in series 1, the Saab Question Everything series now turns to the burning question of biofuels as used in their BioPower model. This is an issue that divides environmentalists. Are biofuels the solution to our reliance on fossil fuels or are they a catalyst for further ecological concerns ahead? Oil prices are rocketing, environmental forecasts are bleak and it doesn’t take a genius to realise that the future of energy lies elsewhere. It’s time for an alternative fuel option.

CO2 emissions are damaging the environment and their reduction is imperative to avoid crises for future generations. The super-stylish Saab 9-3 Convertible can be run on bio-ethanol, which goes some way to giving us a cleaner conscience.

85% of the fuel that runs the Saab 9-3 BioPower is BioEthanol, which can be made from renewable sources. This helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels and significantly reducing CO2 emissions on a well to wheel basis in comparison to petrol.1

Saab, together with Channel 4 and The Independent, understand the importance of freethinking, and are challenging people to explore the key issues that face us all today. We need to take collective responsibility in shaping the future, questioning everything to find a better way forwards. Biofuel may not be the whole solution but it’s a start. Read Steve Jones’s take on this debate here.

The Independent's take on bio-fuel.

  1. 'Source to wheel' / 'well to wheel' means all CO2 emitted from growing the crops or extracting the crude, producing/refining the fuel, transporting it to market and powering the vehicle. Optionally, since “Actual CO2 savings vary depending on from which biomass the ethanol is produced, and on the production process.”
