Top Tips from lifestyle guru Anjula Mutanda

  1. Be motivated Be clear about what it is you want to achieve. Visualise that goal. Write it down. Focus on the steps you need to take to get there. Make a list of people who can support you to achieve your goal. For instance, if you want a to change your job, focus on where you`d like to work. Write down what your skills and strengths are. Network with the best people to help you get started- whether its friends, family members, the internet or the job centre. Do your research. Now you`re fully prepared to kick start your new career!

  2. Dream Big. Allow yourself to imagine what you can make happen, this enables you to think creatively. Without imagination, nothing is possible- with imagination, everything is possible. So, you want to be the next big thing in the food industry, but you don`t know how to go about it? Imagine you are there already. See yourself as running your own restaurant. By doing this first, you will be in a positive frame of mind to focus on what you want.

  3. Take the lead. You can follow the crowd, and stay safe, or step up and take the lead. Stepping up means stepping out of your comfort zone and being prepared to stand out from the crowd and declare your ideas. This is how success is achieved. Don’t wait for someone else to achieve what you can make happen right now. For example, at work if you can see a way to operate more efficiently and save time and money, don`t sit on your ideas. Write out a clear and concise plan. Show how it will both be labour and time saving. Set up a meeting with your boss, and show them how it will work. This will not only show your hidden talents, but next time promotion comes up, you may be first in line to get it!

  4. Be fearless. Fact. Opportunities are everywhere and polymaths are the very people who recognise this. Don`t waste precious energy worrying about things going wrong, or not working out. Be prepared to learn, and use your knowledge to focus on pushing the boundaries and realising your goals. See the unknown as untapped potential. If you’re a talented dress maker and want to be the next Vivienne Westwood and set up your own successful designer clothes outlet, but have never done anything like it before, start off by signing up for some business classes. That will tool you up with the skills , information and contacts that you’ll need. Host an evening for your friends where you show case clothes and road test what works best. Just by doing this, you’ve already opened the door to many more possibilities.

  5. Believe in yourself. Self belief is your key ingredient. When you`re excited about your ideas and truly believe in what you`re saying, like ripples on a pond, other people catch on and want to be part of it too. Self belief is contagious, and attracts people to you. You`re a passionate writer and have a gift for penning wonderful short stories, don`t squander your talents. Contact magazines, and publishers. Send them your ideas, get them excited about what you have to offer. It worked for JK Rowling- it can work for you too. Thinking outside the box is energising. Seeing the world differently, and challenging yourself to make your vision happen is emotionally freeing.
