Launa for Self Portrait UK (2002)
Launas self-portrait is a statement about her own
future and her concerns about the ways in which new technology controls
and intrudes into our lives.
I wanted the viewer to question the possible technology
of the future. A SIM card look-alike inserted in the eye holding all your information.
To convey this in her self-portrait, Launa decided to
focus on her eye as a symbol of her identity and character. Launa took a digital photograph
of her eye and used computer design software to superimpose
the image of a SIM card over the pupil and iris a feature that is unique to us all.
