Amy for Self Portrait UK (2002)

Because Amy didn’t think she was any good at art, she had to think of ways to make a self-portrait other than through drawing and painting. By scanning two pages of her school diary into her computer, Amy has conveyed details of her home and school life, the stresses and strains of exams, and life with her friends. The intensity of the writing and marks on the diary pages make this a highly revealing self-portrait that manages to show much of Amy’s character and identity.

‘These pages are taken from my school planner, representing a snippet of my life, my self-portrait.’
