Picture of a contributor's quote: Share the sight of a life twice the size

Tatiana for Self Portrait UK (2002)

Tatiana wanted to create an image that summed up her feelings about being a young unaccompanied refugee. She wanted her self-portrait to say lots of different things about her life and to convey a strong sense of her own situation and identity.

To make her self-portrait, Tatiana used a disposable camera to photograph a day in her life. At different times of the day she took a photograph from her own point of view of the places she went to and the people she met. She then created a photo-collage by fixing the images to a piece of paper, along with the following text: ‘This is me. It's all I’ve got, how far do you think I will get?’

Tatiana’s collage was then scanned and submitted to Self Portrait UK as a digital image.
