‘My self-portrait is about all the things that I wanted to be when I was a child.
I adored Marilyn Monroe, I wanted to be a Hollywood film star, I wanted to sing, I wanted
to do tap and ballet, I wanted to be on the stage. All those things are still part of
me, I still have the traditions I was brought up with, I still have my religion and my
culture, but it doesn’t stop me doing what I want to do. I’m not just what people
think I am, its what I think I am that makes my self-portrait.’
