Doing your own research is an excellent way to come up with your own new design ideas. The idea for the Vexed Parka, for example, came about partly by researching the problem of air pollution and alternative forms of transport to the car. Surprised? Don't be. The designers realised that to get people out of their cars and onto two wheeled forms of transport, they need clothing that would offer good outdoor protection, and also enable them to feel safe outside the 'metal box' of their cars. In short, the designers needed to research the question of 'urban mobility'.
