Big Brother in your schoolDay 1: Getting started |
We rack our brains thinking about ideas for the website
We're all sat round a table and Dom kicks things off by explaining that we need to create a website that explores a Big Idea related to crime. She tells us it has to be something newsy, lend itself to multimedia and appeal to 13 and 14 year old students.
Everyone is excited by the challenge and keen to get some ideas on the table. We vote in Guy as team leader, and Amanda agrees to note down everything we say. The ideas come thick and fast; airport control, a lie detector that detects lies with a heat sensor, gun amnesties, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)... the list goes on....
After an hour of brainstorming, we decide to highlight what we think are our best ideas and put them to a vote. The vote is unanimous - CCTV is the winner. The main reason we went for CCTV is because Brighton (where we live), has recently introduced CCTV all over the place, in the streets, shops, by the beach. Also, CCTV is something that affects everyone, and there've been a number of stories on the news recently saying that CCTV has helped prevent and solve crimes.
We decide to spend two days doing research before getting together to discuss what we've found out. Amanda sets another meeting date and we're off!
