Judges' tips

Shock us, scare us, amaze us - do something we've never seen before!

The competition isn't about cramming shed loads of eye-candy into a web browser - it's about developing new and interesting ways to communicate .

Anything that you can fit on a web browser is fair game - text, images, animations, links, forms, sound, video, Shockwave or Flash - whatever you want. Just remember that the majority of people don't have high speed Internet access, so spare some thought for the 56k Modem home user - less can mean more!

Don't plagiarise (copy, cut and paste) other people's work without their permission. The more original your website the better - create your own images, photos, sounds and video.

Building a website is only half the story. A site only comes alive when people use it. How will you make sure your site appeals? Can you use interactive elements to help tell a story? Can users influence the content of your site? Can you use your site to have a conversation with users?

At the end of the day, the Webit competition is about communicating an idea or point of view to an audience in a really creative way. Remember that if users don't understand what you're on about, or they can't see your work because of some technical problems you didn't spot or fix, you won't have communicated anything!
