PIXnMIX
LIVE was a 4-week lab programme running through November and December 2004
at Vivid in Birmingham. Under the expert gaze of tutors from VJs.net,
Syzygy and Vivid, 20 young people with an interest in digital visual arts
but no live video experience were guided through the process of gathering,
producing and mixing the material to create their own live VJ performances.
The live productions were
showcased to great acclaim at an Audio-Visual special, jointly promoted
with Birmingham's 'Heducation' at the Custard Factory, Birmingham, on 16.12.04.
You can view streaming video clips of the live sets below - you'll need
RealPlayer - download the free version here
Well, we gave them free rein on themes..
This is what happens when you let a bunch of freaks loose with a copy of
aftereffects, a camcorder, and a small dog, then chuck it all into VJamm
and apply the forwards / backwards buttons..
Top marks to this bunch for diving into audiovisual MIDI sequencing in VJamm. 4 mini-sets rolled into one with fine style. this is going to make you freak....
Lots of excellent freeframe manipulation going on here - again featuring some of the participants' own sounds too. Check out the restrained use of colour pallette - a slick, smoothly-designed set.
LIVE EVENT :: VJ KITTEN
'To
everyone involved in delivering pixnmix I would like to say a big thanks
for such a fantastic week of workshops.
I feel inspired to be filming every day now to collect video clips for VJing!
Working towards and then taking part in the Live VJ performances has made
the whole experience unique. The live performance was so much fun and a
positive note to end on. I feel like this is just the beginning now though
- I want to continue developing VJing skills and other people in the pixnmix
crew are interested in getting together in the new year to plan an event
- watch this space!'
