RAGHAV
Blending R&B, Asian, a little bollywood and a little rap,
artist Raghav has had three tracks in the Top 10, and has gained
a huge urban following nationwide.
Now based in Britain, 23-year-old Raghav was born in Canada
to Indian parents, studied Indian classical music, grew up
singing in his local temple, in choirs and performing in musicals,
leading to school years crammed not only with study but also
tours of Canada and Europe.
He began writing music when he was 15, heavily influenced
by the pop R&B music filtering across the border from
America. He received offers of scholarships from many music
schools across America but chose, at 17, to move to LA on
his own to study with Seth Riggs, vocal coach to, amongst
others, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
In the UK, he studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing
Arts, fine tuning his own sound. He joined R&B band 11/7
and a Mobo nomination for best unsigned artist was enough
to get Raghav a solo management deal and an introduction to
the highly influential Sly & Robbie and British R&B
producer Mushtaq. Raghav finally began to settle on the style
that has become his own, a fusion of the best of his influences
into a unique sound.
Soon after, he signed with A&R Records while simultaneously
working with the DJ producer 2play, heralding his arrival
in the mainstream with a maximum of underground buzz.
