About the survey:
Help us to collect data about wildlife habitats across the UK in our national 'Phenology' and 'Dandelions' surveys.

Curriculum Relevance

  • supports QCA Schemes of Work for information technology (3C & 4D) and science (5/6H enquiry in an environmental and technological context)
  • gives a real purpose for scientific enquiry
  • meets a number of curriculum objectives in science, ICT and mathematics
  • enables pupils to share and interrogate data about dandelions in different habitats with other children throughout the country
Television Programme
The television programme is in two parts - 'Phenology' and 'Dandelions'. Both invite schools and children to take part in a national collection of data. 'Dandelions' is based on the QCA schemes of work for science - enquiry in an environmental and technological context (unit 5/6H). Children can go out, find dandelions, measure them and record their location, and put all the information on a national database. Data collected across the country will be uploaded daily to this website and aggregated to create a national profile.
'Phenology' is about first-sighting of a range of plants, animals and natural events. Throughout the year children can get in touch with us and visit the website to see first sightings across the UK. The information collected will build into a reference resource and also a stimulus for new questions.
