About the survey:
Curriculum Relevance
- supports QCA Schemes of Work for information technology (3C & 4D) and science (4A).
- entering and sharing data with children throughout the country
- gives a real purpose for using IT to aid and enhance a scientific enquiry
- meets a number of curriculum objectives in science, ICT and mathematics
Television Programme
The television programme is in two parts - 'Vital Statistics' and 'Healthy Eating'. In 'Vital Statistics' we are hoping to find out just what shapes and sizes children are. We'd like you to help us gather this information to build a national profile of today's 7–9 year-olds. Children will take key body measurements and enter them into the 4Learning database in order to explore relationships between height, weight, hand-span, foot length, and so on. Access to this site means that children throughout the country will be able to share compare and combine data about key body measurements in order to find answers to their questions about body size and shape.
'Healthy Eating' will give a picture of what children eat at the beginning of the new century! A dedicated website will act as a focus for the project. Children can compare their results with those of other schools, share findings with children in different parts of the country, and have their data aggregated into the national diet profile.
This programme and support materials were developed in collaboration with RM. You can find more lesson plans and activities at Window Box Online.
